Sample implementation procedure

Keep in mind that although both infographic creation and management dashboard creation are visualizations, the ways in which they can be used are different. Consequently, the sample steps for their creation will also differ. Therefore, the sample procedures will be divided into two parts – one for infographics and one for management dashboards.

EXAMPLE STEPS OF CREATING AN INFOGRAPHIC:

  1. Examine the needs – whether it is necessary to prepare an infographic, or whether a description or a simpler visualization such as a chart will suffice.
  2. Choosing the purpose of the infographic.
    • Examples of infographics applications:
      • A simple explanation of a complicated process,
      • To draw attention to a specific issue, problem, etc.
      • Introduction to a new topic,
      • The recipient’s interest in the new field,
      • A summary of a longer report – a synthesis of information,
      • A form of product promotion.
  3. Selection of data to be visualized.
    • If you have data – selection and analysis of data, information, texts.
    • In the absence of data – finding sources, collecting and analyzing the necessary data.
  4. Identify the main topic of the infographic.
    • Identify the main theme and the most important conclusions to be included in the infographic.
    • Determine which content the recipient needs to remember.
  5. Analyzing and organizing the content – separating smaller parts, for example, by creating headings.
  6. Creating an infographic diagram:
    • The main element is the image, not the text;
    • Using comparisons, for example, putting data in a context that stimulates the imagination;
    • A selection of important as well as interesting information;
    • Maintain visual and linguistic consistency and logical arrangement of information.
  7. Creating an infographic concept:
    • Graphically expanded chart,
    • Logical sequence,
    • Figure in the center,
    • Characterization of one topic,
    • Timeline – such as the history of the cluster,
    • Data comparison,
    • Process explanation,
    • Infographics as a map.
  8. Finding inspiration.
  9. Creating an infographic diagram.
  10. Making the infographic – either yourself in a free program using ready-made templates or outsourcing the work to a graphic designer.

FOR THE MANAGER’S DASHBOARD, KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Presents the most important data,
  2. Is clear, organized and well-designed graphically (e.g., the colors of the cockpit and the colors of the organization are the same),
  3. Is easy to create and modify,
  4. Provides a presentation of how metrics change over time.

Some of the steps in preparing a dashboard are similar to the steps in preparing infographics.

  1. Decide on the purpose of the cockpit.
  2. Identify and select dashboard users.
  3. Development of KPIs – key performance indicators.
  4. Selection of data to be visualized.
    • If you have data – selection and analysis of data, information, texts.
    • In the absence of data – finding sources, collecting and analyzing the necessary data.
  5. Choosing how to visualize KPIs and data.
  6. Choosing the right type of dashboard.
  7. Choosing how to prepare the dashboard – using a ready-made solution or outsourcing the preparation of the dashboard to an external company.
